The Observatory doesn't have the equipment to receive signals from the seismic station - they're pretty much limited to binoculars and a radio. (It's something I'm actually working to change; I'm collaborating with folks at the International Volcano Monitoring Fund to help raise money for the Observatory, so they can get the proper equipment to monitor for things like this.)

The INSIVUMEH folks might have noticed something, but it's difficult for them to disseminate warnings (and for people to evacuate), since much of the area around the volcano is very poor communities where very few people have their own transportation.Jessica Ballhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/13117925212295349320noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-3319786799012800176.post-22216320906334788322010-04-28T07:29:25.506-04:002010-04-28T07:29:25.506-04:00Jess,

Stay safe down there - if there's a lot of ash in the air, make sure you stay indoors or wear face masks (a wet bandanna or painting mask should work).

Dr. Behncke - Thanks!
