About Me

Also known as Jessica Ball off the interwebs, I'm a geologist with a passion for volcanoes, writing and passionfruit.

I'm a grad student in the Department of Geology at SUNY Buffalo, where I'm learning how to safely and productively play with very hot rocks. My PhD research centers on the interaction of water and lava domes, and will involve both field and modeling applications. I also write volcano articles for Geology.com, as well as indulge in photography, camping and hiking, and a number of obscure stringed instruments.

Occasionally I impersonate a normal human being, but it isn't as fun.
